Weight loss resistance happens when imbalance exists in the body.  Four key areas must be evaluated to determine the unique plan for weight loss: 1) lifestyle factors, 2) hormone and nutritional deficiencies, 3) need for repair, and 4) toxin overload.  Accounting for the unique needs of each individual in these key areas will provide the best opportunities for long-term weight loss.

Each Story is Different

There is an overwhelming amount of information about how to lose weight.  Every story is different and every patient’s reason for the weight gain in unique.  That is why it is important to dig deep to understand the true root of the issue at hand.  At Awaken, we will not only provide you with education and an understanding of why weight gain has been a problem, but we will also provide the inspiration, accountability, and empowerment to change the contributing factors at hand.  It is important to address the 4 key areas that contribute to weight gain: lifestyle factors, deficiencies, need for repair and toxin overload.

Lifestyle Factors

Lifestyle factors that contribute to weight gain include dietary choices and nutrition, stress management, sleep hygiene, hydration, and movement/exercise.  At Awaken, we will do a comprehensive evaluation to understand your unique needs and make a comprehensive plan to address lifestyle factors.  Habits do not change overnight and this is an area that can be challenging for many people.  That’s why we have accountability with health coaches and dietitians that can offer their unique skillset to help you execute your plan.  In addition, cravings and hunger can also thwart weight loss and this can also be addressed with supplements or prescription medications if this is identified as a significant contributing factor.  We also offer the HCG protocol in the right situation where this would be helpful.  The key to long term success in weight management is persistence and long term support with the right lifestyle plan for each unique individual rather than a short term diet to transiently lose weight. 

Deficiencies and Imbalances

Hormone and nutritional deficiencies and imbalances can create a propensity for gain weight and must be addressed in order for an individual to be successful with losing weight long term.  Hormone related issues that contribute to weight gain include: estrogen dominance which is an imbalance of estrogen to progesterone with a higher amount of estrogen.  High cortisol due to physical or psychological stress can also lead to weight gain.  Low thyroid function will also be a challenging issue when it comes to losing weight.  Lastly, Insulin resistance is also a major contributing factor in some individuals and tends to be worse as we age and especially in postmenopausal women. 

There are also nutritional components that contribute as well including consuming a diet high in hyperpalatable, addictive processed foods lacking in phytonutrientsHigher carbohydrate and sugar consumption sabotages weight loss as well.  There may also be unique micro or macronutrient imbalances that will be assessed with recommendations provided. 

Need for Repair

A body that is inflamed and in disrepair cannot lose weight efficiently. This is why we also address this issue at Awaken. We will work on gut healing, opening detox pathways, healing emotions and rebooting the nervous system. The issue of repair is often overlooked and it can be one of the key stumbling blocks keeping patients from losing stubborn weight. 

Toxin Overload

There are a mind-boggling number of environmental toxins that impact the body each and every day. Our environment has become incredibly polluted over the last 50 years, brought on by industrial farming practices and general pollution of air, land and sea. Additionally, we are exposed to many more man-made chemicals today – present in medications, beauty products, cleaning supplies, residual pesticides in foods – seriously increasing nutrient requirements for proper detox. Without consistent detoxification support, these toxins accumulate inside your body, ultimately triggering more serious disorders that affect body weight, hormone balance, digestion, joint health, and proper mental function. Proper detoxification support is also key when undergoing any weight loss, because many fat-soluble toxins (stored in fatty tissues) get released and need to be dealt with.
